Caffè Zamboni sits right in the heart of Bologna on Via Zamboni, offering a casual yet lively spot that blends a café, bar, and buffet restaurant all under one roof. It’s especially appealing for those who want to sample a variety of local and international flavors without committing to a formal sit-down meal. The atmosphere is upbeat but not overwhelming — a familiar hangout for students, locals, and travelers exploring the university district.

The self-service buffet format is a highlight here, giving you the freedom to pick from a generous spread that ranges from classic Bolognese pastas like tortellini with parmesan sauce to sushi and fresh deli items. This makes it an ideal place for a relaxed lunch or a laid-back dinner, especially if you appreciate variety and want to keep an eye on the budget. Food quality catches a nice balance between satisfying comfort and freshness without feeling overly polished or pretentious — perfect for those who want authentic eats in a straightforward setting.

Beyond food, the bar aspect deserves a mention: Caffè Zamboni is known for its affordable cocktail offerings, including Aperol Spritz served in generous portions. It’s a smart choice for early evening aperitivo when you want to unwind with friends, enjoying the buzz of the university surroundings and the steady flow of both students and locals stopping by. The staff tends to be approachable and quick, complementing the overall easygoing vibe.

Because it’s centrally located, it works well as a convenient stop before or after exploring Bologna’s historic streets. The crowd is a mix of regulars who appreciate the value-packed buffet and visitors drawn by the simple appeal of good pasta, pizza, and drinks all in one place. For anyone planning to linger over a drink or a quick bite during the day or evening, the combination of good food, reasonable prices, and a welcoming atmosphere makes Caffè Zamboni a practical choice.

We stumbled upon their lunch buffet. We found more than enough to our taste. It's also surprisingly cheap. Their tortellini with parmesan sauce is better than at high end restaurants I've tried that cost 3 times as much as this. 1000% recommend. Great sushi, pasta, veggies. We came back here twice.

Great place for cocktails and aperitivo, cheap and delicious, centrally located. You can get the €12 unlimited, all you can eat buffet (one cocktail included). Staff was very nice too!

We got a prosciutto pizza and tagliatelle ragú. It was really delicious and the service was really friendly and helpful. They also serve Aperol in a 1 litre carafa for 10€ which is probably the best deal around. We got the carafa like 5 times already and will definitely be coming back.

Great value for money. There is an all you can eat buffet with a drink of your choice for 12 Euros. The food tasted good but I wouldn't say it's the best. They had very good sushi. The staff is friendly and accommodating.

€11 for unlimited buffet lunch + bottle of water and coffee. Great value. Tasty food with lots of different options! I particularly enjoyed the gnocchi and the desserts (tiramisù e cannoli). Staff were friendly. There is mostly outdoor seating but also indoor (we sat inside because of the heat and it was very comfortable). I had been here before for aperitivo and really enjoyed the mojitos! We were served crisps and olives with our drinks.
